Students at the Industrial Training Institute (ITI) located on the Mansa road are a harried lot as basic facilities such as potable water, clean washrooms and durable furniture is still a distant dream.
Students say though there are four to five potable water booths inside the campus and a reverse osmosis (RO) system has also been attached to one of the water booth, it has been lying defunct for the last several months and the water coming from other booths is unfit for drinking.
Students get an electric shock when they touch a tap at the water booth where RO has been attached. A number of times students have received electric shocks.
Besides, the washrooms on the premises of the institute also present a picture of neglect. Broken taps, lack of cleanliness and no water supply in the washrooms have made the lives residents miserable. Resultantly, the area around washrooms emanates a foul smell.
They allege this is not only the picture of students’ washrooms even teachers’ washrooms also present the same picture.
Apart from this, the infrastructure on the premises of the institute is also in a deplorable condition. Broken benches and defunct fans are a common sight on the campus.
Pleading anonymity, a student said, “Time and again, we have intimated the authorities about the problems, but in vain. Every time they gave us an assurance, but nothing has been done so far.”
When contacted, group instructor Purshotam Dass said they would take up the issue with higher authorities and would make sure that students’ problems were resolved soon.
On the other hand, Gurpreet Kaur, principal of the ITI, could not be contacted despite several attempts.
