Bathinda, September 20

The ETT and JBT teachers, teaching in the government elementary schools in the district finally heaved a sigh of relief after the District Education Department released the list of 50 ETT teachers who have been promoted to the post of head teachers.

It is pertinent to mention here that the teachers had recently staged many protests demanding that the promotions be done immediately in the Bathinda district as well as the same had already been announced in other districts almost six months ago.

Calling it a success of their stir, the leaders of the Sanjha Teachers Morcha, stated that although the promotions had been announced late, the teachers were happy that their demand had been met. Union leaders, Paramjit Singh Jida, Gurmukh Nathana, Apar Apar Singh, Karamjit Jalal and others stated that teachers had been promoted to the post of head teachers across all the district of Punjab six months ago, except for Bathinda.

They added that following prolonged protests by the teachers, the District Education Department swung into action and released the list of teachers who have been promoted. The list was released by the District Education Officer (Elementary), Rajinder Singh.

The union, however, also added that it would continue to demand promotions for some more teachers who were deserving. They also added that the teachers' union would also continue with its demand of bringing an end to political interference in the matters of the schools.
