Alleging misbehaviour by school principal, teachers of Government Senior Secondary School (Boys), Tapa, along with students, staged a protest this morning.

They called it off after intervention of Barnala ADC while the principle was shifted to Barnala headquarters on deputation.

After morning prayers, all teachers started protesting at the school alleging that principal Harbant Singh had been using foul language and harassing them.

They also alleged that their repeated complaints to seniors against principal had fallen on deaf ears.

They said they would intensify their agitation if the principal was not transferred to some other school.

School principal Harbant Singh said some teachers, who didn’t want to work were creating problems in the school.

“Some members of the teachers’ union are instigating other teachers against me as I have been regularly directing them to improve their teaching for better results. The teachers are playing politics to remove me from here. I have done nothing wrong,” said Singh, who was not present at the school today when teachers protested as he was called to the district education office in Barnala.

The tension between the principal and teachers has been giving sleepless nights to 900 students of the school as final exams are approaching.

“The Punjab Government must take immediate action against all troublemakers as it’s affecting our study. There are only a few days left in our exams but teachers and the school head are busy quarreling with each other,” a student said.

Barnala ADC Parveen Kumar said the principal had been transferred to Barnala office on deputation till further order.

“We would not allow anyone to play with the future of students. The matter would be sorted out in a few days,” he said.
