Residents of Ajit Nagar here have started an indefinite protest against the local administration after it on Tuesday razed a wall to make way for the cremation ground from a street.

The protesters said the opening of the way to the cremation ground from their street would make their life hell. They also recited religious hymns during the protest, apparently to avoid any police action.

Notably, the cremation ground, located along the railway crossing, is not having any other alternate way and after the construction of a railway overbridge in the town, people were facing a lot of hardships. People were not even able to take a body to the cremation ground in any vehicle.

A number of local social organisations had even time and again raised a demand to construct or make some way for the cremation ground.

However, residents of Ajit Nagar had never allowed the administration to demolish any wall and make a smooth passage. The local administration had attempted last week to make the way, but area residents had opposed that time too.

Meanwhile, a meeting was held between area residents and officials of the local administration on Wednesday, in which the latter were assured that the opening of the way would not create any kind of disturbance to them.
