Bathinda, December 13

Residents of the city and nearby areas today woke up to witness the first fog of the season. While the city was covered in a thin layer of fog, the outer areas along the fields had a dense cover of fog.

The cold wave prevailing in the region will intensify in the coming days. The Weather Department has also predicted that dense to very dense fog is likely at many places across the state during the next 48-72 hours and minimum temperature is likely to fall by 3-4 degree Celsius during next two-three days.

Weather experts also claim that increase in chill was due to western disturbances.

Further, snowfall at higher reaches also led to a dip in the temperature, leading to dry and cold winds.

As per the Agri-Met Department of the PAU regional station, Bathinda, the minimum temperature was recorded at 4.5 degree Celsius while the maximum temperature recorded today was 16.2 degree Celsius.

Winter has already marched on to our doors and the temperature is set to fall more in the coming days.

Winter brings in a lot of problems due to the dry and humid weather bringing changes drastically in our body.

The drop in temperature aggravates cough, cold, pneumonia and acute bronchitis.

Apart from wearing woolen clothes and using equipment like heaters and geysers, people should also consume heat-producing food items that are also nutritious and rich in iron and calcium contents to beat the chill.

The biting cold wave has spelt boom for the sellers of woollens in the city.

Confirming that the drop in temperature in the last 10 days has given a boost to his business, Amritpal Singh Ammi, owner of a retail store at Mall Road, told Bathinda Tribune, “In the past week, the demand for woollens has increased manifold. Jackets and long coats are more in demand.”

Interestingly, the chill is also keeping the customers away from the markets in the evening.

“While the market is quite crowded during the daytime, as the sun sets, the crowd fades out,” said a shop owner.
