The district administration will organise a district-level function on May 25 to distribute debt-relief certificates amounting to Rs 17.44 crore among 3,722 farmers of Barnala district, under the debt relief scheme of the Punjab Government.

While disclosing information about the event, Barnala Deputy Commissioner (DC) Dharam Pal Gupta said the function would be organised at Grand Grewal Resorts situated on the Garcha road.

Gupta said during the function, 2,391 farmers of Barnala subdivision and 1,331 famers of Tapa subdivision would receive certificates amounting to Rs 10.23 crore and 7.21 crore, respectively.

“Under the debt relief scheme, the Punjab Government has waived the loan of marginal farmers availed from cooperative societies. In the second phase of the scheme, cases of small farmers owning 2.5 to 5 acres will be considered,” Gupta said.

The Deputy Commissioner assured the famers that under the debt relief scheme, the government was committed to waiving the loan of every eligible farmer.

“If the name of any eligible farmer has not been added to the list released by the administration or any farmer has objection, he can submit his written application with the Sub-Divisional Magistrate concerned,” the Deputy Commissioner said.
