Bathinda, June 19

Former Cabinet minister and senior SAD leader Sikander Singh Maluka on Tuesday announced that the party would hold an indefinite dharna soon against the “false cases” being registered against its workers in the district.

He said the decision would be taken after talking to party president Sukhbir Badal.

As per a press release issued here, Maluka was addressing a meeting of party sarpanches and panches from the Rampura Phul constituency, who alleged that SAD workers were being “falsely implicated in various cases at the behest of Punjab Power Minister Gurpreet Singh Kangar”.

They urged the party leadership to launch an agitation to deal with the situation.

The SAD sarpanches and panches said they would stage protests in front of the offices of senior officials and would not even hesitate to gherao them.

Maluka told them that he had a word with the senior police officers regarding “false cases” against SAD workers, but not a single case had been cancelled yet.

He said the party would not tolerate any injustice with its workers and would not rest till these false cases were withdrawn. The former Cabinet minister said he would soon meet the party chief to decide the next course of action on the issue.

The SAD had strongly resented the registration of case against party workers recently after they reportedly clashed with Congress workers during the cooperative society elections at Bhai Rupa village in the district.
