Sanitation workers end stir

BATHINDA: Members of the Municipal Corporation Bathinda (MCB) Sanitation Workers Union today ended their stir after the MC Commissioner’s assurance that their demands would be fulfilled soon.

Members of the Municipal Corporation Bathinda (MCB) Sanitation Workers Union today ended their stir after the MC Commissioner’s assurance that their demands would be fulfilled soon.

Municipal Council Commissioner Sanyam Aggarwal this afternoon went to the agitation site outside the Municipal Corporation Bathinda office and assured the protesting workers that most of the union demands can be fulfilled by the state government and he has already written a letter to the government regarding this, while demands which are to be fulfilled at their level would be fulfilled soon.

After this assurance, union president Vinod Kumar Mali thanked Municipal Corporation Bathinda Commissioner and announced of ending the strike and told the workers to return to work from tomorrow morning.

With this announcement, the Municipal Corporation Bathinda officials and city residents are finding relieved as from last four days cleaning of roads have not been taken place due to the agitation of these workers. Due to which heaps of garbage can be seen lying along the roads on the roadside at various point in the city.

It is pertinent to mention that these sanitation workers were staging protest in demands that around 1,500 sanitation workers should be recruited, sanitation workers’ old pension scheme should be implemented as while filling the forms they make many mistakes, employees Seventh Pay Commission allowance installment should be released at the earliest, office should be made for each attendance point, educated sanitation workers who are working in the office for a long time should be promoted, 15 sanitation workers should be regularized, employees who have completed the training period should be regularised and various other issues as well.

Union chairman Bikram, Om Parkash, Rajesh Kumar, Rajinder Kumar and others were present in the protest.
