Sessions Judge visits Bathinda Central Jail

BATHINDA: Paramjeet Singh, District and Sessions Judge, and Dr Mandeep Mittal, CJM/Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, Bathinda, today visited the Central Jail.



Bathinda, March 14

Paramjeet Singh, District and Sessions Judge, and Dr Mandeep Mittal, CJM/Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, Bathinda, today visited the Central Jail. He went round the premises inspecting various centres.

They went to the blocks hospital, factory, re-habilitation centre, female ward and sports centre. Some convicts urged them that they wanted to file an appeal against conviction orders passed against them and thereafter the directions were issued to the Superintendent of Central Jail, Bathinda, to send their appeal to the High Court Legal Services Committee and the Supreme Court Legal Services Committee wherever required.

He assured the inmates that they would get a speedy trial in case their detention period was long and noted down the names of various inmates. He interacted with those inmates who were in need of legal help and directed the CJM to take necessary action for providing free legal aid to the inmates who were in need of legal help and support. He visited the kitchen and tasted the food.

The District and Sessions Judge interacted with Para Legal Volunteers who had been deputed to help illiterate and needy prisoners in writing down their grievances. — TNS
