Bathinda, February 18

Sewage overflow in various residential and commercial areas of the city has become a nuisance for residents. They have been suffering from the problem for a long time.

Despite a number of complaints, the Municipal Corporation (MC), Bathinda, has failed to resolve the issue. Today, sewage water was accumulating near the residence of the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP).

Sukhwinder Singh, a city resident, said, “Blocked sewerage is the biggest issue of the city as sewerage lines remain choked most of the time, resulting in sewage overflow on roads. It emanates a foul smell.”

Another city resident Jaspal Sharma said, “Dirty water has been overflowing here and also stinking badly. However, the authorities concerned did not take the notice of the issue. The civic body has been spending Rs 288 crore on the sewerage and water supply project. It has given the sewerage maintenance contract to Noida-based Triveni Company, but residents did not get respite from sewage overflow.”

According to officials of the civic body, the corporation is working to address the problems being faced by the residents of the city.
