Sewage overflow and garbage outside the District Administration Complex (DAC) near Ambedkar Chowk for the last one month has become an eyesore for city residents. The problem is not restricted to the DAC area, but sewage overflow at the entrance gate of the city bus stand has also made the lives of city residents miserable.

Harvinder Singh, a visitor to the DAC, said, “The entire stretch outside the DAC leading to the SSP office is stinking. The condition is such that vendors standing outside the complex have also shifted their stalls.”

He said sewage overflow at the entrance gate of the city bus stand reflected on the administration. Often, passengers have to cautiously cross the stretch.

Kamal Kumar, a vendor, said, “We have intimated the cleaning staff to resolve the sewage overflow problem outside the DAC complex, but in vain.” He further stated that due to accumulation of dirty water for the last one month, a foul smell was emanating out of it. As a result, a majority of customers refused to visit their stalls.

Gurnam Singh, a commuter at the city bus stand, said, “It seems that authorities concerned are least bothered about the public inconvenience. Sewage overflow causes inconvenience to residents, especially senior citizens and those with children.”

Bus stand superintendent Karnail Singh confirmed that sewage overflow frequently occurred at the entrance gate of the bus stand in the last few weeks. He said they had intimated the concerned official to resolve the problem.

Mayor Balwant Rai Nath said they would address the issue soon.
