Subordinate Services Union holds protest over demands

Members of the Punjab Subordinate Services Federation staged a protest on Tuesday in Bathinda. Raising slogans against the state government, the protesters, working with different government departments, reiterated their demands and threatened that in case their demands were not heeded any time soon, they would intensify their stir.

Elaborating on their demands, they said the Congress should keep its promise and regularise the services of those working on a contractual basis, bring the employees working on outsourcing basis directly under the department and also regularise the services of employees who were recruited under several Central Government schemes in various departments.

They said for employees who were recruited after 2004, the contributory pension scheme should be cancelled and the employees be brought under the old pension scheme. They urged the state government to implement the ‘equal pay for equal pay’ rule and increase salaries, allowances and other benefits to those working on contract and outsourcing basis on a par with the regular employees.

The implementation of the recommendations of the 6th Pay Commission, immediate release of the installments of dearness allowances of the employees, release of salaries of employees working on a contract basis in government departments, covering the employees under cashless medical health scheme, increasing the allowance given to the employees for uniform in keeping with the increasing cost of uniforms in the market, recruiting new employees to fill the vacant posts in government departments to ease the work burden on the existing employees were some of their demands.
