The teaching community has sought grace marks for the PSEB Class XII chemistry examination held on Monday, saying a part of it was out of syllabus.

Vijay Garg, principal, Government Senior Secondary School, Malout, said, “The difficulty level of the chemistry exam of Class XII was very high. The marks division of some sub parts was also not specified. Besides, one of the four-mark numericals related to the concentration cells was out of syllabus as it is not mentioned in the PSEB text book. One of the two-mark questions regarding difference between macromolecular and associated colloids should also be considered out of syllabus as the topic of associated colloids is not mentioned in the prescribed syllabus.”

Sureshta, a lecturer of chemistry, said, “This is mental harassment for students. They are in depression. So it is requested to give grace marks in this case for the future of students.”

Another teacher, pleading anonymity, said, “The examination level was just like that of IIT. A majority of students will not clear it. The board authorities should give grace marks to save the future of students.”

Meanwhile, some students said grace marks would enable them to compete with students appearing in examinations of other boards.

“The difference of just one mark can affect our future as there is a tough competition to get admission in the next class in any reputed institution,” a girl student said.
