Bathinda, October 17
Members of the ETT-TE Pass Unemployed Teachers’ Union today announced that they would protest in Ludhiana tomorrow during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit there.
The members climbed atop a TV tower for the second consectutive day here.
In Jai Singhwala village of the district, union members have been on a protest for the last 150 days.
The members of the union had blocked the Bathinda – Badal road near Jai Singhwala village yesterday. Some protesters climbed the TV tower in Bathinda in the wee hours. They alleged that the government had failed to deliver its promise as it did not give appointment letters to them.
Some protesters had climbed atop a water tank in Muktsar six days ago and threatened to jump.
Few protestors at Jai Singh Wala village had also poured kerosene on their body to commit suicide. However, they were stopped by their colleagues.
The union members have been demanding the government to complete the recruitment process for 2,005 posts, excluding reserved seats. They earlier gave an ultimatum to the government to meet their demand by October 15.
Two protesters, Deepak Kumar and Salwinder Kumar, fainted in Mukstar on Saturday after their blood pressure shot up. They were now admitted to a hospital.
“The government has intentionally adopted a casual attitude towards our demand for recruitment. It has also failed to complete the recruitment process for these posts. We will intensify our protest if government fails to pay any heed to our demand,” Amarjit Singh Kamboj, president of the union, said.
“Yesterday, we blocked the road and one of our protesters is still atop the water tank in Muktsar district but the police cordoned off the area near the water tank. We are demanding water for our co-protestor,” he added.
