Bathinda, May 11

Teachers who have been engaged in duties pertaining to checking answer sheets of students in Class X and XII examinations, are yet to be paid for their duties. Notably, the Punjab School Education Board is all set to announce the results of both the examinations in coming few days.

As per information, the names and bank account details of teachers engaged in paper marking duties were collected by the board at the time of beginning of the procedure for paper checking. The documentation of these details was also conducted, but the payment is yet to be released.

The PSEB charges examination fee from students appearing for these board examinations three months in advance and yet there has been a delay in the release of payment to be made to the teachers. Students appearing for the Class X examinations are made to pay Rs 950 which includes the fee for conducting practical examination while students are charged Rs 1,150 for appearing in Class XII examination.

In turn, the Board pays the teachers Rs 6.15 per paper checked. This amount is meager when compared to the Rs 25 remuneration that the Central Board of Secondary Education pays to its teachers for checking one paper.

Although all the marked papers have been submitted with the PSEB head office, the board is yet to release the remuneration. Officials at the PSEB main office claim that they are yet to receive any complaint pertaining to the non-payment of dues to the teachers and added that a tentative amount for clearing the dues of the teachers is always sent to the centres in advance and the final settlement is done after the receipt of bills. They assured that in case there is any complaint pertaining to the dues, the Board would look into it.
