Thieves struck at a house located in Street Number 10, Ganesh Nagar, on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday and took away gold jewellery and Rs 30,000.
The occupants of the house came to know about the theft when they returned around 5 am on Tuesday.
The owner of the house, Satish Kumar Singla, along with his family members, had gone to attend the wedding function of his younger brother at Vipin Street on Amrik Singh Road. In their absence, thieves barged into the house and took away the jewellery and cash lying in the house.
“We came back around 5 am and were shocked to see that the main gate and main door of the house were partially opened. The locks of both gates were found broken. When we entered the house, we found that the entire house was ransacked. We checked all cupboards and almirahs. Clothes and other goods were strewn all over. The thieves had broken the lock of an almirah as well and taken away about 70-gm gold jewellery and about Rs 30,000 cash,” said Singla.
After the family raised an alarm, ASI Sukhmander Singh of the Civil Lines police station reached the spot with his team and inspected the crime scene. Forensic experts were also called in to collect fingerprints, from the house.
Following the statement of Satish Singla, the police registered a case against unidentified persons and started inquest proceedings.
