Three arrested with 300-gm heroin

A Team of the Special Task Force (STF) today seized 300 gms of heroin from three persons, who were coming in a Scorpio car on the Barnala road here. The STF also impounded their car.

The main accused, Harpreet Singh, a resident of street-10/25, Balla Ram Nagar, Bathinda, has been declared a proclaimed offender by the court as he was booked under the NDPS Act by the Kotkapura police in Faridkot.

It was the second operation of the special task force in three days as the force had recovered 110 gm of heroin, arrested three persons, including a jail electrician.

Addressing mediapersons, DSP Harinder Singh Maan of the STF said that a team led by inspector Jasveer Singh set up a naka on the Barnala road near Antique Palace.

The officials gave a signal to the driver of the Scorpio (HR-20U-0027) car to stop but he tried to go back.

DSP Maan added that the STF team seized the car. During investigation, 280 gm of heroin was recovered from Hapreet Singh, 10 gm from Vijay Kumar, and 10 gm from Balwinder Singh, both residents of Kotkapura.

A case has been registered under the NDPS Act against the accused at the Thermal police station.

DSP Maan said Harpreet Singh had been active in heroin peddling for the past two-three years.

He would get the drug from New Delhi and supply it in Bathinda and surrounding districts.

“We have started investigation to reach the main supplier in New Delhi as it surfaced from the last recoveries of heroin in the Malwa region that heroin smuggled in the region was procured from New Delhi,” the DSP added.

“Our team will move to New Delhi shortly,” he said.

The accused were produced in the court today, and have been sent on three-day remand.

Other accused Vijay and Balwinder worked for Harpreet Singh in his house, he added.

Harpreet Singh had been booked by the Kotkapura and Badhni Kalan police in Moga district under the NDPS Act in past.

DSP Maan said the STF had recovered more than half kg of heroin in the past few months and now, they would catch the big fish.
