Three-day counselling camp at BFC

Baba Farid College organised a three-day counselling camp for its undergraduate students on the college premises.



Baba Farid College organised a three-day counselling camp for its undergraduate students on the college premises. The camp was organised to address the career-related queries of the students. Career counsellors said students after graduation were in confusion as they had no clue about choosing their career. The vice-principal of the BFC welcomed the experts. Many stalls were put up with a view to counsel and provide information about the wide assortment of possibilities of future career options. BD Sharma, deputy director (activities), Baba Farid Group of Institutions, and career counsellors motivated the students. They said students should be aware of the scope of their course. They said it was the best opportunity for them where they could get information about their future study. Dr Pardeep Kaura, deputy director (academics), BFGI, delivered a speech on the issues that are crucial for taking big decisions about life and career. He gave practical examples for winning the race of life with passion and right decision. He also advised the students about do’s and don’ts in the life. He shared personal experiences with the students. He guided them to choose the next course as per their interest. He said it saves time as well as increase the output of the students.

Short-term course 

The Department of Computer Applications of the Giani Zail Singh Campus College of Engineering and Technology is organising a short-term course on artificial neural network in association with the National Institute of Technical Teachers’ Training and Research, Chandigarh, on the campus. The course will end on April 28. Prof Mohan Paul Singh Ishar, Vice-Chancellor, Maharaja Ranjit Singh Punjab Technical University; and Prof Jasbir Singh Hundal, Registrar, lauded the efforts of the department for organising such a knowledgeable short-term course for the faculty and research scholars. Prof Ashok Kumar Goel, director, college development council, inaugurated the course on Tuesday. Campus director Prof Gursharan Singh appreciated the efforts of the department and congratulated Prof Sanjay Bhatnagar, head of the department, and Dr Munish Kumar, course coordinator, for organising the course.

Events on environment to be organised for a month  

On the occasion of Earth Day, a series of programmes started at the Central University of Punjab (CUP). During the one month, many programmes will be held to make the environment clean and green under the aegis of the Centre for Environment Science and Technology. The aim of these programmes on the subject of “Climate change and environment awareness” is to make society aware of the challenges of environment erosion and create consciousness to ensure support of the public in environmental protection. Students and the NSS cell of the university planted saplings in Katar Singh Wala village to observe Earth Day. Dr Sunil Mittal, associate professor, gave a lecture on environmental awareness. On the occasion, a special programme was also organised on the university campus. Dr Yogalaxmi KN, assistant professor, who is also the coordinator of the programmes, gave a brief description of various programmes being organised in the coming month. She said the programmes were sponsored by the Ministry of Earth Sciences. 

Extension lectures 

at DAV College

The Post Graduate Department of English of DAV College, Bathinda, organised extension lectures on “Literary Theory: An Introduction” and “Smart Tips for Appearing in Exams” on the campus on Tuesday. The extension lectures were delivered by Dr Narinder K. Sharma, assistant professor, DAVIET, Jalandhar, and Dr Renu Gupta, associate professor, Department of English, DAV College, Jalandhar. Dr Narinder Sharma talked about reading literature and the application of various literary and critical theories. He expounded his views on the definition of literature to the audience. He said it could be better understood by foregrounding the text and then applying theories by gaining indepth knowledge of the two. Dr Renu Gupta discussed how to attempt a question paper with the students. She cleared the myth prevailing among the students that the length of any answer fetches marks. She said it was content and not the length which matters. College principal Dr Sanjeev Sharma and head of the department Dr HS Arora were also present on the occasion.  

Farewell party 

The Civil Engineering Department of the Giani Zail Singh Campus College of Engineering and Technology organised a farewell party for the final-year students. Prof Gursharan Singh, director of the college was the chief guest. Interacting with the final-year students, he expressed his feelings and inspired the students. — TNS
