Bathinda, April 25

Members of the Water Supply and Sanitation Contract Workers’ Union Punjab on Wednesday staged a protest against the officials of the department.

Under the leadership of the union’s district president Sandeep Khan, the workers protested in front of the office of the executive engineer of the department’s division number 3.

Addressing the protesters, Khan said the department office in Ludhiana had sent new rates for quotations. As per the new rates, the divisional office had sent revised quotations to the executive engineer’s office, they said and alleged that without taking any permission, the executive engineer revised the quotations as per the old rates and approved the same at his own level.

They further alleged that the office had changed the rules for calling the quotations for the works to be given to sewermen as well. They announced that they had staged a district-level protest but in case their complaints against the XEN, divisional office 3 were not addressed, they would intensify their stir.
