Bathinda, June 28
A resident of Sangat Kalan is running from pillar to post for police action against the accused in a rape case. The rape victim has written a letter to the DGP for help.
She held a press conference today in the city. She alleged that the police had not taken any action against the accused, who had threatened her family.
She said she was married at Phulokheri village. For the past four years, due to some dispute with her in-laws family, she had been living with her parents at Sangat Kalan.
She said a year ago, she deposited Rs 75,000 with Sarvjit Singh, a resident of Sukhna, who was working in a chit fund company.
At that time, Sarvjit Singh had assured that within a year, he would pay her back double the amount, she added.
The victim said after one year, she started asking for her money but Sarvjit Singh made lame excuses.
She said on June 11, when she called him and asked for money, he sent some unknown person to her house.
She was assured that she would get her money at Sangat Kanchia.
She claimed that when she reached Sangat Kanchia with that person, Sarvjit gave her Rs 10,000 and told her that he would give her the rest amount after reaching Bathinda.
She agreed and sat in his car in which Parminder Singh, Gursewak Singh and another person were already sitting.
She alleged that on the way to Bathinda, the accused forced her to drink a cold-drink mixed with alcohol and some intoxicant.
Later, the accused took her to some isolated place, where they raped her.
Later they dumped her on the Dabwali road in the city.
She said the next day, the police registered a case against the accused and arrested them.
They were released after a few days. She said due to the soft approach of the police, the accused were threatening her.
She demanded that the police should take strict action against the accused.
Canal Colony police station SHO Kulwinder Singh refuted the allegations.
He said the police were working on the case. “It is a suspicious matter, due to which we are reinvestigating the entire case. Further action will be taken after the probe is done,” he added.
