Technology in the education sector has been offering complete services to students, making the job of the latter a little easier in the present day of competition. Extramarks Education India Pvt. Ltd is looking to establish itself as a leader in this field. Its founder CMD Atul Kulshrestha talks about the company’s plans.

Q. What is the Extramarks’ footprint in India?

A. Incorporated in 2007, Extramarks is leading in the education technology sector in India by providing 360° education support to learners through new age digital education solutions. In six years, over 7,000 schools across the country have adopted the company’s digital learning solutions. Besides this, Extramarks is also present in Singapore, Kuwait, the UAE, Qatar and South Africa.

The company has pioneered in building end-to-end learning ecosystem with Smart Learn Class, Classroom Tablets, Assessment Centre, and School Management System with a vision to create bag-less schools.

Over 1 million learners have subscribed to Extramarks’ solution online, simultaneously making inroads into various other countries by extending its learning solutions to various international academic programmes qualifying it as a global education provider.

Q. What inspired you to create the bag-less concept?

A. In view of the socio-economic changes taking place due to the advent of IT and the increased burden of education, it has become indispensable to change the mode of education delivery. The rote learning methods have become obsolete by technology enabled platforms that leave a stronger imprint on the minds and learning of children. The disruptive effect of technology on children’s attention span clubbed with ever increasing learning needs and societal explanation is evidence enough against the inaptness of traditional learning. Children have a natural fascination towards the technology especially computers, mobiles, tabs and other such platforms.

The concept of creating bag-less classrooms is to use the disruption created by electronic media to the best use of education.

Q. How many schools have been tapped so far under this concept?

A. The bag-less school model is gaining recognition in schools throughout India. Some prominent schools to have embraced the bag-less concept are Birla Balika Mandir, Pilani; Jay Jalaram School, Godhra; and Muslim Education Society, Pattambi. In most of these schools, more than 1,000 students have opted for this revolutionary technology.

Q. How has been the response and what is your go-to market strategy to expand your reach through this concept?

A. The response garnered to date has been overwhelming and the institutions have been engaged successfully. The schools have reported better results and lesser impediments in the classrooms.

Q. How do you plan to cope with the competition as digital education is rapidly gaining popularity in India making it highly lucrative market for international brands?

A. In terms of competition, our competitive environment is innocuous as the company is dedicated to quality and is a pioneer in its domain. The company has a strong team of 300+ dedicated academicians who are aligned with technology and animation experts to give an edge to the learning solutions.
