WASHINGTON: The US Supreme Court on Tuesday sided with Samsung in its big-money smartphone patent fight with Apple, throwing out an appeals court ruling that said the South Korean company had to pay a $399 million penalty to its American rival for copying key iPhone designs.

The US Supreme Court on Tuesday sided with Samsung in its big-money smartphone patent fight with Apple, throwing out an appeals court ruling that said the South Korean company had to pay a $399 million penalty to its American rival for copying key iPhone designs. The justices in their 8-0 ruling sent the case back to the lower court for further proceedings. Reuters

Bank of Baroda cuts lending rate by 0.2%

Flushed with deposits, state-owned Bank of Baroda on Tuesday cut benchmark lending rates by 0.2%. The new marginal cost of funds based lending rate (MCLR) will be effective November 1, the bank said. The bank has reduced (MCLR) by 0.2% from 9.25% to 9.05% for 1-year tenure, it said. PTI

The Consumer Price Index for Industrial Workers (CPI-IW) for October 2016 increased by 1 point and stood at 278.  The year-on-year inflation measured by monthly CPI-IW stood at 3.35% for October, 2016 as compared to 4.14% for the previous month and 6.32% during the corresponding month of the previous year.
