PM to inaugurate 106th Indian Science Congress at LPU

Lovely Professional University (LPU), Jalandhar, will host the 106th Indian Science Congress on its campus from January 3 to 7, 2019. The event will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.



Lovely Professional University (LPU), Jalandhar, will host the 106th Indian Science Congress on its campus from January 3 to 7, 2019. The event will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The biggest annual congress of research workers from across the world will stimulate scientific research and advancement of science in India. Around 15,000 delegates, including 300 top scientists and Nobel laureates from across the world, are expected to attend the event. The focal theme for this five-day science congress is 'Future India: Science & Technology'.

Chenab Valley Power Projects celebrates 8th formation day

Chenab Valley Power Projects (P) Ltd. (CVPP) celebrated its 8th formation day on June 13. The organisation was incorporated on this day in 2011 for execution of three hydro-electric projects, namely Pakal Dul (1,000 MW), Kiru (624 MW) and Kwar (540 MW) on Chenab river basin in Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir. The formation day functions were organised at its corporate office Jammu, project/site offices, Kishtwar and camp office, Faridabad. On the occasion, MY Khan, Chairman, CVPP, and MS Babu, MD, CVPP, conveyed their best wishes to employees and their families and emphasised on the need for making well-co-ordinated efforts to take up the construction of the projects. Various programmes were held to mark the occasion. 

Nagpur-based LB Group forays into consumer goods business

Nagpur-based LB Group has forayed into consumer goods business focusing primarily on health and hygiene. The basket of consumer products is categorised into three brands - 'Ray, 'O', 'Breathe'. The company has launched Ray Cooking Spray, a product that helps in reducing oil consumption by 10 times and fat content up to 80% in our daily diets. The company also unveiled 'O' hand sanitiser sachet, specially formulated with moisturisers. It has also launched 'O' toilet seat sanitiser, a product specially designed for women, which kills 99.9% germs within seconds of spraying it on the toilet seat and helps in using public washrooms without any fear of infection. The company also launched Breathe Herbal mouth freshener, a 100% ayurvedic product with traditional herbs and organic ingredients. 

Shoolini University begins new courses from current session

Solan-based Shoolini University has announced innovative courses for the new academic session. Meanwhile, in a recent ranking by Education World, Shoolini has emerged as Himachal Pradesh's No. 1 private university and the country's 39th best private university. Prof PK Khosla, Vice-Chancellor, Shoolini University, disclosed that the new courses are unique and some of them are first-of-their-kind in the region. These include agricultural engineering, data analysis, yoga, network engineering, digital journalism and disaster management, which have been introduced for the first time in this region.  The doctoral programme in yoga is also being started to strengthen the research base of yogic sciences.

OBC awarded best PSB for Atal Pension Yojana

Oriental Bank of Commerce (OBC) has been awarded the Best Performing Public Sector Bank (FY 2017-18) for Atal Pension Yojana (APY). Mukesh Kumar Jain, Managing Director and CEO, Oriental Bank of Commerce, received the award from Minister of State for Finance Shiv Pratap Shukla at the National APY Conference held on  in New Delhi on June 12. 

International congress on electric vehicle market held

Dr Anoop Kumar Mittal, Chairman and Managing Director, NBCC, and Chairman of BRICS Chamber of Commerce and Industry, delivered the welcome address at 'International Congress on Electric Vehicle Market, 2018', at India International Centre, New Delhi, recently. Among those present at the event were Ms Meenakshi Lekhi, Member of Parliament, and delegates from BRICS nations. The event was organised by BRICS Chamber of Commerce and Industry. In the recent past, a 22 KW AC electric vehicle charging station has been installed in New Moti Bagh GPRA Colony, which has been developed by NBCC.

PHD Chamber organises meet on solar installations

PHD Chamber in association with Chandigarh Renewable Energy Science & Technology (CREST) under the aegis of Department of Science & Technology, UT Administration, organised a session on 'Solar and Renewable Energy' at Hotel Taj, Chandigarh, on June 15. The session attended by senior management and technical staff of the hotel. The programme was aimed at bringing awareness about the need and benefits of solar installations.

BHEL wins EPC contracts worth over Rs 125 crore

BHEL has won two orders cumulatively valued at over Rs 125 crore for setting up solar photovoltaic (SPV) power plants on engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) basis in Gujarat. The first order for setting up a 20 MW SPV power plant has been placed by Gujarat Alkalies and Chemicals Limited while the second for setting up a 10 MW SPV power plant has been received from Gujarat State Fertilizers and Chemicals Limited. Both the solar power plants will be set up at Gujarat Solar Park, Charanka, Gujarat.

Awareness camps for farmers held by FMC Corporation

In order to empower agrarian society, global agricultural solution provider FMC Corporation is organising Stewardship Day in 15 states across the country. Over 20,000 farmers, 1,000 retailers and hundreds of stakeholders will participate in 400 various programmes about the safe handling and usage of pesticides.  Pramod Thota, president, FMC (India), said: "Besides raising awareness among farmers and stakeholders about pesticides, we are also informing them about counterfeit products. We are working closing with authorities, industry associations and farmers' organisations to curb this menace."
