The UT police today said that disclosure statement of Pooja Bagga has revealed that Naresh Sabbarwal, Superintendent, posted in the pension cell of PU used to keep the lion’s share of the amount that was diverted to her family member’s bank accounts and used to tell her that “paise upar bhi toh dene hain” (the money is to be sent to the ‘higher-ups’ in the university).

“After the money was fraudulently transferred to Pooja’s relatives, he used to direct her to withdraw the amount and then keep the lion’s share from it,” said an official posted with the Economic Offences Wing (EOW).

“For instance, he once asked her to withdraw Rs 45,000 out of which he kept Rs 35,000 for himself and gave her Rs 10,000. He told her that he was taking more share as the money was to be shared among the senior PU authorities,” said the police.

However, the police said till now no involvement of any senior authority of the Panjab University had come to light though they were investigating all angles.
