As many as 138 people have been found with diarrhoea symptoms in Sector 5 of Mansa Devi Complex. Health officials said people were reporting mild symptoms. One person had been hospitalised.
Dr Suresh Bhonsle, District Surveillance Officer, Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme, said the Health Department found diarrhoea symptoms in a number of people on Tuesday, after which the they started a survey and supplied ORS and chlorine packets to residents.
The department found water contamination in society 1, 3, 6 and 28 of Sector 5, MDC. The officials concerned said it had been four days since the cases started emerging. They covered more than 1,200 houses under the survey and also deputed teams to identify dengue cases.
They said the officials of the department were also visiting residents of the nearby societies.
The teams of the department recorded 38 fresh cases today. The officials said, “Till now, we have identified a total of 138 cases of diarrhoea in the area. The people have mild symptoms.
One of the patients had to be hospitalised. He has been discharged.”
The department has directed the health wing of the Haryana Shahari Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP) to ensure high chlorination of water supply to the area to contain contamination.
