Panchkula, May 18

Two accused, Amandeep Singh, alias Mani, and Harjinder Singh, alias Ladi, both from Zirakpur, were arrested by the Panchkula police today in the murder case of bouncer Amit Sharma, alias Meet.

In a new twist to the case, it has now come to the fore that one more person, Munish, was also involved in the murder. The police had already arrested prime accused Gagandeep Singh, the alleged mastermind of Meet’s murder.

A senior Panchkula police official said four accused were involved in this case of whom three were in police custody while one accused, Munish, was still at large. Munish had taken the pistols, which were used in the murder, along with him. The police are yet to recover the pistols, the official added.

According to sources, Munish and Ladi had fired the bullets on Meet on May 8. Among them, Munish had fired the first bullet. Mani was driving the car which was used in the crime.

Meet was killed by two unidentified men on May 8 in Saketri, Panchkula.

No role of Sonu Shah, Surjeet

The Panchkula police had lodged an FIR against Meet’s old business rival Gagandeep Singh, along with his two associates Sonu Shah and Surjeet Singh, for executing the murder. Sources in the Panchkula police revealed that Sonu Shah and Surjeet Singh had no role in Meet’s killing.

‘Murder was for protection’

Sources in the Panchkula police said Gagandeep, who was in the Nabha jail, contacted Ladi and Mani through Munish, “who is Gagandeep’s best friend”. Ladi and Mani were told that if they eliminate Meet, they would get protection from Gagandeep and later they could even collect ransom from people using Gagandeep’s name. Ladi and Mani had never seen Meet and his photos were sent to them through WhatsApp.

Slain teacher’s male friend provided pistol for Meet’s murder

While the Panchkula police have failed to make any headway in the murder of the 39-year-old schoolteacher who was found murdered on the night of May 11, with the arrest of Ladi and Mani, it has now come to the fore that one of the pistols and 10 bullets, which were used in Meet’s murder, were provided by Mani Rana of Bathinda. The pistol was licensed. Sources said Mani Rana was a friend of schoolteacher Reena, who was found murdered on May 11. Reena, a resident of Dhakoli, whose husband Sandeep Kumar Pun is a former Subedar, was stabbed 25 times. On May 11 night, Reena and her younger son Punu had gone to the Sector 20 market in Panchkula. While Punu went to a shop, Reema waited in her car. When he returned, he found his mother missing.
