Residents of Daun and Ballomajra villages are not getting water supply for the past four days. The motor of the overhead water tank, from which both villages get the water supply, got burnt following which the water supply was suspended.
The villagers have no option but to drink water being drawn through hand pumps and submersible motors. Member of Parliament Prem Singh Chandumajra had adopted Daun village, having a population of about 5,000, after winning the Lok Sabha poll. The population of Ballomajra village is nearly 2,000.
“The underground water is not potable. It’s yellowish,” said Avtar Singh, sarpanch of the village. He said some residents were purchasing water from tankers.
An elderly woman, Balbir Kaur, lamented that they had to arrange buckets of water from houses of other residents, who had submersible pumps. “I washed clothes of my family members today after five days,” said Balbir Kaur.
The authorities concerned claimed that the process of replacement of the motor was on and the problem would be rectified soon.
