The body of a 27-year-old youth was found in his room in Burail last night. The man reportedly committed suicide after hanging himself from a ceiling fan.

According to the police, the deceased has been identified as Vinod, a native of Uttarakhand. The victim was a painter and was staying on rent in Burail.

Inspector Baljit Singh, SHO of the Sector 34 police station, said neighbours reported that foul smell was coming out of Vinod’s room last night.

The police reached the spot and found the door locked from inside. The door was opened and the body was found lying on the floor. “The victim hanged himself using a rope. It appears the rope broke following which the body fell on the floor,” the SHO said.

The police said there were no injury marks on the body. No suicide note was found from the spot. The victim was staying alone in the room.

The police said the body had been kept in the mortuary at Government Multi-Specialty Hospital, Sector 16. The family of the deceased has been informed about the incident. The police have initiated inquest proceedings in the case.
