Chandigarh, November 19
While the State Transport Authority, Chandigarh, has started issuing challans to autos running illegally in the city after the rape incident in an auto, the authorities have a tough task at hand to check 2,600 to 3,000 autos running without registration in the city.
Sources said there was no record of drivers of these autos as they had not informed the STA. Rajiv Tewari, Additional Secretary, STA, said the STA had stopped registration beyond the limit of 5,500 autos in the city. He said many autos which were registered in Mohali and Panchkula were yet to get the permit from the STA, Chandigarh. He said the STA had started a drive and 38 challans were issued today to those without a permit. — TNS
