Mohali, April 21

The two-day World Scholar’s Cup 2018, hosted by Learning Paths School, Mohali, started here on Saturday. The Tribune is the media partner for the event.

The programme began with international educationist Dylan Kroft delivering the keynote address to more than 370 students from 30 schools across the region.

Kroft said: “The present education system tends to develop a lot of insecurities in a child, such as intense drive to succeed, inability to focus on blessings or parental rejection. There is a dire need for a student to think on topics which are out of box.”

Elaborating on this year’s theme, ‘An Entangled World’ , the students participated in a debate, collaborative writing, multiple choice tests and quizzes on the first day.

The students have to research on the subject and submit a thesis at the end of the meet.

Vishal Verma, World Scholar’s Cup programme Director, said: “Participation in any regional round can lead to berths at the global round to be hosted at Kuala Lumpur, Barcelona and Melbourne and the finale event hosted by Yale University in the United States.”

Robin Aggarwal, Director, Learning Paths School, said: “The aim of the scholar’s cup is to facilitate holistic development of the students and help them become 21st century leaders.”

Mayo College Girls’ School, Ajmer; Springdale School, Amritsar; Indrapuram School, Delhi; Strawberry Fields World School , Chandigarh ; Smart Wonders School, Mohali ; St Johns High School Chandigarh; Sacred Heart Schoo; Delhi Public School, Saupin’s School, Chandigarh are participating.
