Chandigarh, October 13

A whopping 323 calls were exchanged among four accused — UT DSP RC Meena, Sub-Inspector Surinder Kumar and two other persons, Sanjay Dahuja, owner of Berkeley Automobiles, and Aman Grover, owner of KLG Hotel -- over a span of 15 days, leading to their arrest in the Rs 75 lakh corruption case on August 13, 2015, says the CBI chargesheet.

In a span of less than 48 hours until Rs 40 lakh was delivered to accused Sanjay Dahuja by complainant Guneet Kaur on the evening of August 13, 2015, DSP Meena had exchanged 10 calls with Sanjay Dahuja – the longest one spanning 196 seconds at 12.14 pm on August 13. DSP Meena, who is presently in judicial custody, had also exchanged 19 text messages with co-accused Sanjay Dahuja.

A total of 40 calls were exchanged between Meena and Dahuja between July 20 and August 13, according to the CBI chargesheet.

The CBI has also produced the details of the number of calls exchanged between Aman Grover and Sanjay Dahuja, DSP Meena and SI Surinder Kumar, Sanjay Dahuja and Surinder Kumar and Aman Grover and SI Surinder Kumar in the chargesheet.

A CBI official said the large number of calls demonstrated how the four were in constant touch with each other and Dahuja was facilitating the Rs 75 lakh bribe deal with DSP Meena.

Moreover, the complainant in the case, Guneet Kaur, and accused Aman Grover (who was facilitating the deal with Sanjay Dahuja who, in turn, was contacting the DSP) had exchanged seven calls on August 12 and 13.

Around 95 calls had also been exchanged between Aman Grover and Sanjay Dahuja from July 20 till the date of the arrest and the longest call between them spanned 292 seconds.

The call details also state that SI Surinder Kumar and DSP Meena exchanged 74 calls during this period. Also, Dahuja and SI Surinder Kumar exchanged 30 calls during this period.

Twenty-eight calls were exchanged between Aman Grover and SI Surinder Kumar. According to the chargesheet, Guneet Kaur alleged that Aman Grover contacted her and informed her that Sanjay Dahuja was in contact with DSP (EOW) Meena and SI Surinder Kumar and these two police officials demanded a bribe of Rs 75 lakh through Sanjay Dahuja for not arresting her parents and brother and to reach a compromise in the case. The CBI stated that Rs 40 lakh was to be paid to the police officials and Rs 30 lakh to Aman Grover to get the matter settled. The CBI laid a trap and recovered Rs 40 lakh and a post-dated cheque for Rs 30 lakh from Aman Grover. The remaining accused were then arrested.
