Mohali, August 5

A 17-year-old Canadian resident was beaten by four policemen in full public view at the Phase 3B2 market here this evening. The only fault of the minor boy was that he was present near the showroom housing the office of an immigration consultancy service, which was raided by a Mataur police team.

The minor boy, a student of Class XI, is in the town to spend vacation with his parents. Talking to Chandigarh Tribune, the boy alleged that four policemen started beating him up all of a sudden while he was waiting for his father, Professor Vikas Salaria, at the market. “The policemen said my son was making a video of their action, which is totally false,” claimed Professor Salaria, who runs a coaching centre at the market.

One of the policeman admitted that it was a case of misunderstanding. “What misunderstanding. They have thrashed my son for no fault his. Just see the daring of a policeman, who said click his (policeman) photo and publish it anywhere,” claimed the father, saying that his son was very upset after the incident.

He alleged that he made several calls to senior officials and the PCR.  “I have to wait for nearly 45 minutes to get a response from the PCR. One of the policemen, who thrashed my son, was a member of the PCR team, which arrived at the scene,” alleged Salaria.  He said a complaint had been lodged with the Mataur police station.
