MOHALI: A 40-year-old woman was electrocuted during rain at Balongi village here today.

Mohali, June 19

A 40-year-old woman was electrocuted during rain at Balongi village here today.

The victim has been identified as Ranjit Kaur, aka Rani, who was living at her parents’ house.

According to sources, during the rain, a part of the house, where an inverter was installed, got waterlogged.

“She was about to switch off the inverter when she received an electric shock," said Pritpal Singh, a neighbour of the victim.

The victim’s neighbours, including Gurmit Kaur, her son Kulwinder Singh and Sushma, also received electric shock while throwing the accumulated water out of the house. Fortunately, they escaped unhurt.

Village sarpanch Bhinderjit Kaur and other villagers reached the spot. Rani was shifted to the Mohali Civil Hospital at Phase VI, where she was declared dead.
