41 challaned under Tobacco Act

PATIALA:The team of the district tobacco control cell, Health Department, here, challaned departmental stores and individuals in the city for allegedly flouting rules related to sale and consumption of tobacco products and collected Rs 3,850 as fine from defaulters after surprise checks today.

The team of the district tobacco control cell, Health Department, here, challaned departmental stores and individuals in the city for allegedly flouting rules related to sale and consumption of tobacco products and collected Rs 3,850 as fine from defaulters after surprise checks today.

The department said as many as 41 challanns were issued to persons and departmental stores during a special drive at the Leela Bhawan chowk, Bhadson road, Nabha gate, bus stand  area, Chotti Baradari and the Sirhind road area.

They said all challans were issued to violators under Sections 4 and 6 of the Cigarette and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA). Civil Surgeon Dr Harish Malhotra said today that the district had been declared smoke-free and activities to ensure the same would be carried out regularly. —TNS
