Chandigarh, October 12
A local court today acquitted five persons of theft and dacoity charges. The defence established that there was an old enmity between the complainant and one of the accused and claimed that they were thus falsely implicated.
The five persons are Gaurav (23), Ajit, alias Ponda (23), Jaiveer, alias Johny (19) and Durga Prasad (25) of Ram Darbar and Sonu Jaiswal (19), a Hallo Majra resident.
According to complainant Kanta, the five accused on December 19 last year entered her house and demanded the keys of her Alto car. Accused Gaurav had a rod in his hand and threatened to beat her up if she did not do so. The five went out of the house when she refused to do so and broke the windowpanes of her car. She said they took away Rs 15,000 lying in the car.
Two days later, Kanta again approached the police and said the same accused stole her purse, which contained Rs 400 and silver anklets from her house.
The five were booked under Sections 382, 452, 395, 427 and 34 of the IPC.
During the trial, it was found that Gaurav and Kanta had old enmity. It was also established that Kanta’s granddaughter had levelled rape accusations against Gaurav in the past, but he was acquitted in the case, according to defence counsel Yadwinder Sandhu.
