5 hurt in kirpan attack at Mohali

Mohali, December 11

In a fit of rage, a person inflicted injuries on at least five persons with his kirpan, which he was carrying along as a religious symbol, at Phase 11 here tonight over smoking.

The police have rounded up Phase 11 resident Gurwinder Singh in this connection. The injured, including Onkar and Satparkash, have been shifted to the Mohali Civil Hospital in Phase 6, where the condition of all of them is stated to be stable. According to sources, Gurwinder Singh objected to smoking by some of the victims in the area. A fight ensued following which Gurwinder Singh pulled out his kirpan and attacked them. — TNS
