Chandigarh, March 14

A 54-year-old private schoolteacher was attacked by honeybees near Arya Samaj temple in Sector 27 here today.

The victim, identified as Ishwar Singh, was rushed to the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in Sector 32 after he fainted due to the attack.

He said the doctors had removed the bee stings from his forehead, neck and other parts of the body and discharged him after administering injections.

The incident took place this morning when Ishwar was walking past the Arya Samaj temple. Suddenly he was attacked by the honeybees.

He said hundreds of bees had attacked him and the attack was so severe that he fell on the road and became unconscious.

A local resident came to his rescue and called the PCR. The police rushed him to the hospital. The victim, whose son is seriously ill and undergoing treatment at the PGI, said he had lodged a complaint with the Municipal Corporation but nothing had been done to remove the beehive.

Several residents of the area complained about the issue. They said the beehive had grown large and several complaints to remove the same had fallen on the deaf ears of the authorities.

The residents said the UT Administration should start a drive to remove all beehives from various parts of the city to save lives of people. — TNS
