Chandigarh, November 23

The slip road in Sector 53 on the road separating Sector 53 and 42, which is next to the forest area where the 22-year-old girl was gangraped, still remains a dark spot as there no street lights have been installed on the entire slip road. Shrubs on the roadside, however, have been chopped.

Even six days after the shocking incident reported from the forest next to the slip road, no provision of street lights has been made on the road so far.

On the day of the incident, the accused auto driver, along with his two accomplices, drove on the slip road, took the victim to the forest area and raped her. In the absence of any street light on the slip road, such an incident can occur again.

The police have placed barricades on the slip road where a naka is laid that is manned by one cop, that too in the evening. A Sector 42 resident, who comes for a evening walk on that road daily, said in the absence of street lights, it was very risky to walk through the slip road at night. — TNS
