A resident of Mohali was robbed of cash and other valuables on a train while coming from Ambala to Chandigarh.
Tejpal Singh (62), a resident of Phase IV, told Chandigarh Tribune here today that the robber took away his gold kara, weighing about 3 tolas, his wallet, containing Rs 3,500, an ATM card and a mobile phone after allegedly giving him tea laced with some intoxicant.
Tejpal Singh, who retired as a senior manager from Chenab Textiles Mills, Kathua, said he had gone to Delhi for some work on March 25. On his way back, he took a train from Delhi till Ambala. Later, when he was making enquiries about trains bound for Chandigarh, he met a person, who was about 40 years old. The person claimed that he was an employee of the Indian Railways and was also going to Chandigarh.
When a train coming from Mumbai to Chandigarh reached the railway station around 5.30 pm, Tejpal Singh got into a coach along with the other person. Tejpal Singh said he gave Rs 10 to the other person, who spoke in Punjabi, and asked him to get tea. They both had tea. There was nobody else in the coach.
Tejpal soon started feeling drowsy and fell unconscious. He regained consciousness at about 3 am and found himself in the train stationed in Chandigarh with his valuables missing. A complaint in this regard has been made to the police here.
