Chandigarh, June 22

The last date for online registration for admission to city’s engineering colleges has been extended till June 30. Initially, it was decided that the last date for the same would be today. According to the authorities, the reason behind this is that candidates under the sports quota are allowed to apply till June 30. Also, the counselling is to start in the second week of July.

Already, 8,865 candidates have registered online against 1,999 seats and 6,591 have submitted their fee. Last year, 9,500 had registered and 8,000 had paid the fee. The 1,999 seats include 40 of the Chandigarh College of Architecture as well, the admission for which is to be done along with the engineering courses.

The PEC University of Technology has the maximum number of seats (667), followed by UIET (585). The Chandigarh College of Engineering and Technology (CCET) has 252 seats, while the University Institute of Chemical Engineering and Technology (UICET) has 195. The admission for UIET’s Hoshiarpur campus, which has 260 seats, will also be conducted. Four rounds of counselling will take place starting July 12.

Starting this year, the admission process will consider only the JEE score of the candidate and not his Class XII marks. However, a minimum of 60 per cent marks will be required in Class XII for general category candidates and 55 per cent for SC/ST/BC and persons with disability.

Students who have passed their qualifying exam from Chandigarh’s schools, recognised by the administration, will be considered under the UT quota, while all others will be considered under the all-India quota for PEC and CCET.
