Aadhaar of newborns now at city hospitals

CHANDIGARH: Pregnant women visiting the Government Multi-Speciality Hospital (GMSH) in Sector-16 and the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in Sector 32 for delivery can get their Aadhaar card made at the hospitals itself as enrolment client multi-platform (ECMP) machines have benn installed there by the authorities.

Pregnant women visiting the Government Multi-Speciality Hospital (GMSH) in Sector-16 and the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in Sector 32 for delivery can get their Aadhaar card made at the hospitals itself as enrolment client multi-platform (ECMP) machines have benn installed there by the authorities.

The staff at the hospital is being trained to operate the machine.

The step was taken in the backdrop of an incident in Gurugram where a pregnant woman was denied entry to the labour ward of a hospital for not having an Aadhaar card, after which she delivered a baby outside the emergency ward of the hospital.

The Medical Superintendent (MS) of the GMSH-16, Dr Vandana Gupta, said,” We have 100 per cent success rate of making Aadhaar card of the newborn. Esvery child born in our hospital is issued the card.”

Sources said the directive of enrolling all newborn was issued by the Union Health Ministry.

Sources said the patients belonging to other states were finding it difficult to get admitted to government hospitals, especially the GMSH- 16.

Dr Vandna Gupta said during the check-up of a pregnant woman, her husband would be told to get their Aadhaar card made.

“The new system has made our job easy,” she said. She further added that a hospital employee would be trained to operate the machine.

Prof BS Chavan, Director, Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32, said the hospital would start issuing the card to parents.
