Mohali, June 23
A solid half-century by Abhijeet Garg helped hosts Mohali score 306 runs against Patiala on the opening day of their final match in the Punjab State Inter-District U-23 Cricket Championship at IS Bindra PCA Stadium here on Saturday.
Batting first, the hosts made a steady start to their innings with Garg and Harsrup Singh adding 42 runs for the opening wicket. The partnership was broken when left-arm seamer Gurinder Bhullar accounted for Harsrup on 26.
Taranpreet Singh added 25 runs to the total before holding out to Sahil Sharma off leg-spinner Mayank Markande on 98 runs. Garg, though, kept the one end up and stitched another 56-run partnership with Ramandeep Singh.
Ramandeep fell to Markande after hammering a 35-ball 32. Garg, who was batting with relative ease, was run out on 81. His 162-ball stay in the middle was studded seven boundaries and a six.
Anil Yadav (9) and Vishwanath Partap Singh (32) fell in quick succession and it was left to wicketkeeper-batsman Mayank Sidhu and Harpreet Brar to push the score past the 250-mark.
The 51-run partnership between the two came to an end after Bhullar claimed Sidhu for 19 runs. Brar (43) and Akash Dhahri (31), however, ensured that the hosts passed the 300-run barrier.
In reply, Patiala were batting on 24 runs when the umpires called the day. — TNS
