Abhishek, Sumit score tons for Asr

India U-19 all-rounder Abhishek Sharma (160) and Sumit Sharma (115) slammed centuries for Amritsar on Day 2 against Chandigarh in the final of the Punjab Inter-District U-19 Cricket Championship at PCA Stadium on Monday.

Chasing Chandigarh's total of 293 runs, the Amritsar boys posted 329/4 to gain a first innings' lead of 36 runs. Abhishek and Sumit stitched together a 259-run partnership for the third wicket in 49.5 overs.

Resuming at 243/6 on Day 2, Chandigarh were bowled out for 293 runs in 133.4 overs. Ayush Sikka and Mandeep Singh took the total to 267 but Sikka was cleaned up by Dipanshu Chadha (77). He was involved in a 136-run stand with Mandeep for the sixth wicket. Soon, Mandeep fell prey to off-spinner Arjun Pappal for 67 off 159 balls, including nine boundaries.

Pappal then accounted for Jagdeep Singh (9) and Amit Shukla (9) to pack the Chandigarh side on 293 runs. Pappal took five wickets for 44 runs, while Chadha claimed three wickets.

In reply, Amritsar opened with Taranvir and Sarthak, however, Taranvir was caught by Tavleen off medium pacer Raj Angad before he could open his account.

Abhishek joined Sarthak and the duo took the total to 26 before Sarthak (8) was run-out by Harshit.

Thereafter, Sumit and Abhishek raised a 259-run stand for the third wicket. The partnership was broken when Abhishek was caught in the slips off Angad on 160 runs off 177 balls, including 18 fours and three sixes. Sumit also fell prey to Angad after scoring 115 off 149 balls. 

At stumps, Salil Arora (16) and Sahil Sharma (16) were at the crease with Amritsar's total reading 329/4 in 67 overs. For the hosts, Angad claimed three wickets for 31 runs.
