Chandigarh, December 14

An accused in a Rs 1.50-lakh bribe case, who is a technician from the Institute of Microbial Technology (IMTECH), Chandigarh, has filed a bail plea in a local court. The CBI has been asked to file a reply by December 18 in this regard. The technician, Chander Prakash Midda, has applied for bail while another accused in the case Dinesh Kumar has been granted bail by the court.

The CBI had arrested Savraj Kandoi, a Gurgaon-based businessman; Sanjay Pandey, a scientist from the Central Ground Water Board (CGWB), along with Midda and Dinesh. Kandoi had allegedly tried to bribe officials to obtain a no-objection certificate (NOC) for his bottling plant, Vrishti Beverages Private Limited, based in Gurgaon, Haryana.

Midda, in his bail application, has stated that the applicant was not running any consultancy as alleged by the CBI, but by Surekha Midda and Vanita Pandey independently. Therefore, he has been falsely implicated in the case and had no connection with the alleged crime. It was also mentioned that Midda was seeking concession of bail partly on the basis of the fact that his case was on good footing than that of co-accused Kandoi, who has been granted bail by the High Court on December 4.
