Administrator’s Advisory Council to meet on July 14

After a gap of approximately seven months, the Chandigarh Administration will hold the meeting of the Administrator’s Advisory Council (AAC) on July 14. Sources said the Administration had fixed the date of the meeting after the approval of VP Singh Badnore, Punjab Governor-cum-UT Administrator.

The Tribune has highlighted the delay in holding the meeting in the report published on June 19. Some of the members raised the demand for holding the meeting regularly.

After the reconstitution, the first meeting of the Advisory council was held on November 7, 2016. The Administration had reconstituted the council in May last year. Nothing much deliberation on issues was held in the meeting, except for members introducing themselves to the Governor.

The council was constituted in all UTs without legislatures with an objective to advise the Administration on developmental issues and policy matters.

FOSWAC chairman Baljinder Singh Bittu, who is also member of the council, welcomed the decision of holding the meeting. He said there were several issues that require deliberation before taking any decision.

Sources said the administration would soon send the lists of the issues taken in the meeting to the members. The issues that are likely to be discussed in the meeting include revival projects of Sector 17, issues related with the development of the city and suggestions sent by the members.

The members want to give their suggestions on the Smart City also. Baldev Goel, president of the Chandigarh Business Council and member of the committee, said traders had been facing several problems and it was the appropriate forum where their issues could be raised.

The newly constituted council includes MP Kirron Kher, former MPs, Mayor, Chief Architect, PGI Director, PU Vice-Chancellor, prominent citizens, lawyers, presidents of all political parties, FOSWAC chairman and other traders’ bodies.
