Adviser recounts UT’s achievements

Cold waves failed to deter the enthusiasm of participants at the Parade Ground in Sector 17 here where UT Adviser Parimal Rai unfurled the Tricolour on Republic Day on Friday.

Braving extreme weather conditions and dense fog, schoolchildren presented a colourful programme. The UT Adviser also awarded 21 residents and employees for their meritorious services.

As many as 20 police personnel were also conferred the Administrator’s Police Medal for their distinguished and meritorious services. Two persons were given the President Medal on the occasion.

While stressing the need for sensitive and responsive administration, he said the city was advancing into a new era of e-governance.

Tableaux showing various policies and programmes of the government were shown during the function.

While recounting the achievements of Chandigarh in the past year, Rai promised to make the city e-ready through a host of e-governance programmes like e-sampark, m- sampark, cashless Chandigarh and e-stamping.

Rai said the Administration was committed to providing better health, transport and education facilities. More schools, hospitals and dispensaries would be opened soon.

He said the city performed exceptionally in all Central schemes. The city ranked first in implementing the Aadhaar-based direct benefit schemes.

He said with the participation of residents, he expects that the city would perform well in the Swachh Survekshan 2018. Under the Smart city project, several new schemes had been started. The Administration had also added more sports facilities. Infant mortality rate had been reduced and several online services had already started.

Rai said the Administration was planning to start a post-graduation course at Chandigarh College of Architecture. The Administration had also sanctioned Rs 100-crore grant to the PEC University of Technology to further improve its infrastructure.

He said the CHB was also coming up with more schemes to provide houses to people. The Administration was also committed to providing 24x7 water supply to residents. Rai also promised to improve health facilities by opening more dispensaries and starting e-modules. He also complimented the police for maintaining the law and order in the city during Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh’s hearing in Panchkula.

Chandigarh Police get ‘Overall Best Turn’ award

The Chandigarh Police received the ‘Overall Best Turn’ award in the parade during the function. In the category of Military Forces/Police Contingent, the first prize was bagged by the Chandigarh Police, the second position by the Chandigarh Police (Female) and the IRB (Female contingent) came third. In the category of Home Guard/Fire Brigade/Civil Defence, the first prize was bagged by the Chandigarh Civil Defence, second position by Chandigarh Fire Services and Chandigarh Home Guards came third. In the NCC contingent’s category, the NCC Army Wing (boys) bagged the first position, NCC Army Wing (girls) came second and the NCC Naval Wing came third.

In the category of Schools Guides (Scouts) GMSSS-16 got the first position, GMSSS-26 got the second position and GMSSS-37B got the third position. In the NSS contingent category, Shri Harkrishan Public School, Sector 42, bagged the first position, Panjab University, NSS Platoon, got the second position and Dev Samaj SSS, Sector 21, got the third position.

The Republic Day parade was thrilled by band contingents from various schools and institutes. Carmel Convent, Sector 9, bagged the first position; Blind Institute, Sector 26, bagged the second position and Delhi Public School got the third position.
