Chandigarh, January 26

Cold wave failed to deter enthusiasm of the participants at the Parade Ground at Sector 17 where Parimal  Rai, Adviser to the Administrator, unfurled the national flag on Republic Day on Friday.

Bracing extreme weather conditions and the dense fog, schoolchildren presented a colourful programme. Rai also awarded residents and employees for their meritorious services. The tableaux showing various policies and programmes of the government were shown during the function.

The administration has announced a holiday in all government and private schools in the UT on January 27.

While recounting the achievements of Chandigarh in the past year, Rai promised to make the city e-ready UT through a host of e-governance programmes.

Rai said the administration is committed to providing better health, transport and education facilities. He said more schools, hospitals and dispensaries would be opened soon. He said the city performed exceptionally in all central schemes. The city ranked first in implementing the Aadhaar-based direct benefit schemes.

He said that with the participation of the residents he expected that the city would perform well in the Swachha Survekshan 2018. He said that under the Smart city project many new schemes had been started. The administration had also added more sports facilities, infant mortality rate had been reduced, while many online services had already started, he added.
