Mohali, May 19
Skipper Yuvraj Chaudhary smashed a half-century before claiming three wickets to help Chandigarh claw back into the match against hosts Mohali on the second day of the U-16 ML Markan Trophy final at the PCA Stadium today.
At the draw of stumps, Mohali were struggling at 105/6 in 88 overs, still 150 runs behind Chandigarh.
Earlier, Chaudhary scored 74 runs off 63 balls, including 10 boundaries and three sixes, to push the visitors to 255 after resuming the innings at overnight 167/8.
The side made 88 runs in 12.5 overs in the morning session today, with the skipper alone adding 71 runs to the total. Chaudhary was finally caught by Akashdeep Singh off Pranab.
For Mohali, Anshul Negi claimed 4/39, while Ayush Goel returned with figures of 3/79.
Needing to restrict the hosts to a low total to stay in contention for the title, Chaudhary once again led from the front as he dismissed Mohali opener Mohit Mehra on four.
After suffering an early blow, Mohali batsmen went into a shell and lost three more wickets to slump to 53/4 in 36.2 overs
Akashdeep Singh and Manvir Singh added 41 runs for the fifth wicket to put the team back on track. However, their 39-over vigil ended when Chaudhary returned to dismiss a well set Akashdeep for 31 (121 balls).
Rajinder Singh (4) became the next victim of Chaudhary as he was caught by an athletic Raj Angad Bawa, who made a dash from mid-off to mid-on to take a single-handed catch.
The left-arm spinner ended the day with figures of 3/18, while Suraj Patle claimed 2/34.
