All set for PU teachers’ body poll

CHANDIGARH:All is set for the elections of the Panjab University Teachers’ Association (PUTA) with only two groups remaining in the fray.

All is set for the elections of the Panjab University Teachers’ Association (PUTA) with only two groups remaining in the fray. There are a total of 676 votes. Jatinder Grover and Rajesh Gill are contesting for the post of the president from the two groups.  

The Jatinder Grover group has fielded Dipti Sareen of the Biochemistry Department for the post of the vice-president, Ashok Kumar of the Hindi Department for secretary and Naresh Kumar of the UIET for joint secretary. Initially, the team had Keerti Vardhan for the post of the treasurer but she withdrew her candidature today. Amit Chauhan would now be their candidate for the post, Grover clarified. 

The Rajesh Gill group has selected Anil Kumar of the UIPS for the post of the vice-president, J K Goswamy of the UIET for secretary, JS Sehrawat of the Anthropology Department for joint secretary and Amandeep Singh of the Evening Studies department for the post of the treasurer.

 Both groups have said that they will stand for the central status to the university. PhD increments for  young faculty and the promotion policy for the dental institute is also on their agenda. Rajesh Gill said that they would back more say for teachers via governance reforms, better work on suggestions of NAAC and improvement in rankings. Grover said they would make sure that recommendation of the Seventh Pay Commission were implemented. Grover added that they would make sure that science teachers did not face problems for their projects.
