Member of Parliament from Chandigarh Kirron Kher today launched a coffee table book, “Masters of the Game—Building the Realty,” published by the Tribune Group of Publications, here today.

Dipayan Choudhury, Head, National Marketing, Tribune Group of Publications, presented the copy of an article, “To stardom from Chandigarh stage,” written on Kirron Kher and published in this newspaper in November 1977.

An elated Kirron Kher said, “I am moved to see a 40-year-old picture of myself in The Tribune.”

“This newspaper has a very special relationship with me and my sister Kanwal Thakar. My sister and I were playing badminton at the national level. My father was in the Army and his posting was in Jabalpur (Madhya Pradesh) and we played for Jabalpur for two years. I finished my schooling there. We shifted to Chandigarh from Jabalpur. My father settled in Chandigarh after his retirement. I joined a college here. My mother and sister had even won the women’s doubles badminton tournament in Punjab when my sister was only 11 years old,” the MP said.

Getting nostalgic, Kirron Kher said, “I still remember, our photographs were published in The Tribune on a regular basis. Journalists like Samuel Banerjee and Donald Banerjee used to come home for interviews and photojournalists Yog Joy and Karam Singh were the ones who clicked us”.

“After I moved to theatre, my photos were published in The Tribune again as an artist. It was the main paper for Chandigarh and Punjab. Now, when I returned to the city as a public figure to contest elections, I observed that there are a number of publications and some of them overstep the boundaries for the ‘news’. But The Tribune has always kept itself dignified. It’s a wonderful newspaper. I am very happy to be here today. It feels as if the entire life has moved a full circle.”

On films and politics, the MP and veteran actress said, “When you talk about films, it looks like another world. For the last two and a half years, I am not doing any films and staying in Chandigarh to fulfill my duty as a representative of the people. While trying to solve the issues raised by the residents, I sometimes forget that I was in the film industry. I promise that I will meet the expectations of the residents and continue to work for the overall development of the city.”

“The coffee table book looks lovely and the gift given to me is priceless,” Kher said.
